It
is not an Confirmed news but as we hear ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal
Haasan has managed to sell the DTH (direct-to-home) rights of
his production venture Vishwaroopam for a whopping cost of Rs.50
crores.
Produced and directed by Kamal Haasan, Vishwaroopam is all set
to hit the screens the world over on 11th January, 3 days prior
to the Tamil festival of Pongal. It has Kamal Haasan, Pooja
Kumar, Andrea Jermaiah and Rahul Bose essaying prominent roles.
The music of the film scored by trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy was
released in Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai the day before.
The film’s DTH rights have been acquired by AirTel and STAR
group for a whopping Rs.50 crores, as revealed by a reliable
source.
Kamal’s fans and movie-buffs can now watch the
film sitting from the comforts of their bedroom or living room
in their houses on the same day the film is being released in
theatres as well. Kamal has also taken the task of distributing
and releasing the film in theatres.
Industry watchers point out that Kamal apparently calculated
that instead of releasing the film in theatres and sweating it
out for the theatrical collections, it would be a profitable
thing to first sell the film’s satellite broadcasting rights at
higher-than-usual rates as the film is likely to be screened on
television hours before it hits the theatres all over the world.
Kamal’s endeavour has been met with skeptical remarks from the
theatre-owners and distributors who have decided to ban the film
release if Kamal does not give it up, but Kamal has silenced his
critics with the argument that as a producer of his film, he
possessed the sole right to decide about marketing his film. |
