It’s official
now: actor Suriya has opted out of the popular game show he had
been hosting for Vijay TV. Titled Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi ,
the show was on air for a few months and was suddenly wrapped up
a couple of months ago, prior to the release of Suriya’s latest
film Maatraan, which had him playing conjoined twins. Neither
Suriya’s acting nor could the bubbly Kajal Aggarwal’s presence
save the film from courting disaster at the box-office.
Prakashraj, the actor-par-excellence has stepped in as Suriya’s
replacement to host the show. The talk in the industry is that
there can’t be a better replacement. The reason given by Suriya
for opting out from hosting NVOK was that he had call-sheet
problems. However, some ‘research’ into the reasons revealed
something else.
Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi was watched by
record audiences this year but also faced criticism for the
relatively easy questions it had on offer for the contestants.
When the show was wrapped up, it was said that its second
‘season’ would commence soon and now it dawns that it would be
Prakashraj and not Suriya who would be hosting the show.
It is said that successive mediocre’s at the box-office has
forced Suriya to rethink about hosting the show. Though Suriya
cites lack of ‘dates’ to shoot the show, the reason for his
opting out of the show is that he was wary of getting ‘far too
familiar’ to the viewers and to his fans. After his last two
films, Suriya is said to have been ‘advised’ by his close
relatives and friends to stay off from the public eye for some
time so that there would be a craving among fans to watch him on
big-screen! |
