January 01, 2013

The film Moondram Pirai which had Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in the lead roles was released in the year 1982. This film was a blockbuster.

Kamal had donned the role of school teacher while Sridevi donned the role of a girl who has memory loss due to an accident.

This poetic film was directed by ace director Balu Mahendra. The climax of this film was very astounding. Ilayaraja had composed the music for this film. The songs Kanne Kalaimane, Ponmeni and Poonkatru of Moondram Pirai were very popular in every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu.

This film was also remade in Hindi which also had Kamal and Sridevi in the lead roles. The film was titled Sadma. Kamal Haasan received the National Award for his best acting in this film.

Efforts are being made in Hindi and Tamil to produce part 2 of this film. Sridevi who parts away with Kamal in the 1st part come to know about the truth comes back to Kamal.

This is the screenplay of the 2nd part. Talks were held with Kamal and Sridevi to act in 2nd part since they will be suitable.

Sridevi has also taken up acting once again. She had donned the lead role in the recently released English Vinglish. It is understood that Kamal has not agreed to act in the 2nd part.

He had mentioned that the success of the Moondram Pirai was due to the pathetic climax and hence he did not want to be the part of this film’s second part.
